Aptar’s manufacturing facilities are currently open and operating as we are considered an essential business supply chain partner to the food, healthcare and consumer products industries.

We are providing dispensing and packaging solutions for hand sanitizers, antibacterial soaps and lotions, actuators for air and surface disinfecting, infant nutrition closures, valves for metered dose inhalers, nasal spray pumps for allergy treatments and life-saving medications, stoppers for medications and vaccines, active packaging for an HIV-prevention medication, and many more critical solutions during this time.

Our solutions help to improve, and in some cases, even save lives and we are rising to the challenge of supplying these products without interruption. The safety and well-being of our people is our first priority and our site action teams are working tirelessly to keep our work sites operating safely.

We have implemented a COVID-19 Global Action Team who is meeting daily to identify and mitigate potential risks as much as possible. This Action Team has implemented a COVID-19 Exposure Control Plan, which was prepared by our Environment, Health and Safety team. Aptar Opens Second Facility in Chonburi, Thailand

Spread over 5,000 square meters, Aptar’s new facility in Chonburi, Thailand will house state-of-the-art injection, assembly and finishing capabilities. It will also allow room for expansion and exploration of new technology and optimization.

Customer centricity is the foundation of everything we do and “You said it we made it” were the key remarks made by Rohit Kachroo, Senior General Manager, South East Asia during his welcome speech during the opening of the new facility. He elaborated further that the new plant will assist in our efforts to satisfy the packaging needs of the market with agility and innovation under one roof.

The event received industry support as it was attended by over 100 of Aptar business partners and was presided by Stephan Tanda, Aptar President and CEO, Shiela Vinczeller, Chief Human Resources Officer and Adrian Jacklowsky, President ASEAN, Japan, Korea.

While Stephan expressed Aptar’s ongoing commitment to Asia, innovation, talent and a diverse and inclusive culture, the event also was also a showcase of Aptar’s promise to bring more technologies, especially injection, to our Global MNC’s in the Region.

Supriya Srivastava, Director Marketing and Communication, India and Southeast Asia, presented the latest product range called the “Essential Series” to the market. The Essential Series was designed based on market input of cost optimization, efficiency and consumer convenience and follows the mantra, “Think local leverage global.”

“We are listening” was the resounding message throughout the morning session. “We are listening, our business is to turn your [the customer] needs into functional possibilities,” said Adrian in concluding remarks.

The event was an opportunity for customers and partners to visit the factory and make suggestions. “It is a reflection of possibilities and expansion”, was the overwhelming response as the team was complimented for its agility and vision by its customer, suppliers and partners in business.

Aptar Opens its Newest Facility in Hyderabad, India

2020 saw the beginning of a new era in the chapter of Aptar Beauty +Home in India as Aptar opened the doors of a new manufacturing facility in Hyderabad, India. As a leading, global packaging solutions provider, Aptar began its journey towards operational excellence in January 2019, when the company decided to expand its footprint in Hyderabad to support the ever-growing need of India packaging market. “Developing and opening this facility in 11 months’ time was due to the tremendous support from our customer and  supplier base,” highlighted Mr. Kanwal Tikoo – President India & Southeast Asia, Aptar.

Located within the landscape of Hyderabad, the new state-of-the-art facility is focused on operational excellence and quality assurance.

Sri B Rajagopala Rao,  Director of Factories, Hyderabad and Mr. Darshan Patel, Chairman, Vini Cosmetics, inaugurated the new facility. The event was presided over by Stephan Tanda, Aptar President and CEO and Shiela Vinczeller, Chief Human Resources Officer. The Aptar family was elated with the presence of over 100 of Aptar customer and suppliers.

While Mr. Rao emphasized importance of safety and to a cheering crowd, Mr. Darshan Patel shared his decade long experience with Aptar highlighting the Aptar spirit of adaptability and commitment to respond to dynamic market needs.

“We are committed to Asia and will continue investing in geographies like India,” said Stephan Tanda. He further elaborated, “India is a key example of our focus on ‘Think Local, Leverage Global’ philosophy.”

Kanwal Tikoo echoed the sentiments of Stephan in his closing remarks. He further specified the importance of a strengthened operational backbone to support the agility and optimization need of the market.

The event was also an opportunity for customers and partners to witness Aptar’s operations first-hand. “Aptar is truly global,” was an overwhelming statement as the Aptar team was recognized for its agility by its customers, suppliers and partners in business.

The event concluded with a demonstration of Aptar’s commitment towards its purpose of improving the everyday life of people as they planted over 100 trees to serve the environment and society at large.

Aptar Again Named One of Barron’s 100 Most Sustainable Companie...

Aptar has again been named one of Barron’s 100 Most Sustainable Companies in America. Aptar is number 48 on the top 100 list for 2020 and this marks the second time Aptar has been included on this esteemed list.

“We are honored to be among the top 50 of Barron’s 100 Most Sustainable Companies recognizing our commitment to creating a more sustainable future,” said Stephan Tanda, Aptar President and CEO. “We believe that strong governance and responsible behavior are essential to long-term success and we continue to pursue an inclusive workplace, embrace climate-focused practices and further a circular economy where plastic is reused and recycled.”

This is the third year Barron’s has published its list of companies with the highest ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) scores. Aptar has been named one of “America’s Most Responsible Companies 2020” by Newsweek.

ESG in Review: Advocating for a More Circular Economy and Further...

Circular Economy

Aptar is a signatory of the Ellen MacArthur New Plastics Economy Global commitment and has joined forces with organizations, such as CE100, that are committed to changing how we produce, use and reuse plastic. Aptar also became a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). Connecting with WBCSD’s 200 other members provides an invaluable opportunity to share best practices and make a circular economy a reality.

Aptar’s partners, PureCycle and Terracycle, were both named to the TIME 100 Best Inventions for 2019. PureCycle Technologies was named for their Ulta-Pure Recycled Polypropylene (UPRP) which is a food grade recycled resin and Terracycle was included for their e-commerce platform, “Loop”, where customers can purchase products they know and love in refillable containers and Loop will pick up the containers after use to be cleansed and sent out again.

Diversity and Inclusion

Today Aptar is taking steps to lead in gender diversity and equality in the workplace, by enabling a culturally diverse workforce and nurturing an inclusive and welcoming culture.

These principles are pervasive throughout Aptar’s organization, beginning at the very top. Today, 30% of Aptar’s Board of Directors is comprised of directors added in the past two years, with 50% being added in the past 5 years. The Board includes 40% women and all Board committees are chaired by women directors. Xiangwei Gong Named “International Pioneering Professional Mana...

The 2019 Chinese Economy Annual Summit was held at the Media Center, Beijing, China on November 17. The summit, co-organized by Economy Magazine and China Business Herald News Weekly, attracted over 400 participants including economists, scholars, entrepreneurs, government officials and media professionals.

During the Summit, Aptar was awarded the “Excellent Foreign Enterprise for Facilitating Chinese Economic Development”, and Xiangwei Gong, President of Aptar Asia, was named “International Pioneering Professional Manager”. This nomination was recommended by Ms. Li Li, the vice-chief editor of the foreign business section of Economy Magazine.  Li Li recently wrote about Aptar’s presence and investments  in China and the region, Aptar’s diverse and inclusive culture, our commitment to technology and product innovation, as well as our social responsibility initiatives.

Aptar Acquires Noble International, a Leader in Drug Delivery Tra...

Aptar has acquired Noble International, a leader in drug delivery training devices and patient onboarding. This acquisition furthers Aptar’s strategy to broaden its portfolio of services that support pharmaceutical and biotech customers through all stages of their drug development journey.

The proper administration, in particular self-administration, of certain medications can be challenging.  With the movement of treatments from the healthcare provider to the home, the need to ensure accurate, consistent and safe use of the device has become a critical component of the effectiveness of the treatment.

Noble’s purpose is to improve patient experiences and outcomes by developing patient-centric advanced drug delivery system training devices – including autoinjectors, prefilled syringes, on-body and respiratory devices – for the world’s leading biopharmaceutical companies and original equipment manufacturers. Noble has also developed a connected solution for injectable devices, which senses and monitors how a patient interacts with the specific steps of drug delivery, and can wirelessly transmit real-time data.

Human behaviors and user experiences are critical elements of Noble’s proprietary training device design process. Combined with patient onboarding programs, Noble’s training devices – which mimic the feel, force and function of the actual drug delivery device – are designed to reduce error and increase device familiarity, both keys to helping patients improve adherence and, ultimately, health outcomes.

Aptar Opens New Technical Education Center in Lincolnton, North C...

Aptar hosted a grand opening event for its new Technical Education Center (TEC) in Lincolnton, NC. This facility is part of Aptar’s Corporate Vocational University (CVU) training program and will provide both six and twelve month training opportunities for manufacturing roles. The program is intended to expand to other Aptar facilities and countries in the coming years.

“The availability of technical skilled workers is a precondition to reach operational excellence at Aptar and an internal education program will be a critical advantage for us,” explained Stephan Tanda, Aptar President and CEO. “We are pleased that our Technical Education Center will provide manufacturing career opportunities for our people and for new talent from the communities where we live and work.”

The TEC center was created to educate and train technical workers for Aptar’s global network of manufacturing facilities. The new center features the latest technology, machinery, tools and training equipment that will be used to train an average of 20-24 apprentices each year. During their apprenticeship, students will split their time between working at their local facility and attending courses at the TEC. The first student Molding Set-Up Technician class has already begun and the students are working on manual material processing, mechanical basics and injection molding processes, along with focusing on Environment, Health & Safety principles.

“We look forward to expanding the Technical Education Center concept into other geographic regions,” said Dr. Thomas Eichberger, an Operations Vice President at Aptar who oversees the Corporate Vocational University. “We foresee a bright future of continued training with additional qualification levels and work streams tailored to Aptar’s manufacturing needs along with the needs of the local community.”

Aptar’s Activ-Blister™ Packaging Solution Approved by U.S. FD...

Aptar announced that its Activ-Blister™ packaging solution for oral solid dose drug delivery was recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a HIV prevention medicine.

The oral solid dose drug was developed by a leading pharmaceutical company in the HIV treatment and prevention space, and represents the first FDA approval of Aptar’s proprietary Activ-Blister™ packaging solution and proprietary application process developed by Aptar CSP Technologies.

The system protects oral solid drug products with a 3-Phase Activ-Polymer™ solution that is fully integrated into the blister package. This 3-Phase Activ-Polymer™ technology, which can be customized specifically for the drug developer’s formulation, offers a broad spectrum of specific drug protection including moisture adsorption, and oxygen and odor scavenging. The technology can also scavenge volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and emit aromas.

Aptar’s portfolio of 3-Phase Activ-Polymer™ protective solutions helps biotech and pharmaceutical partners meet specific drug long-term and in-use stability requirements while maintaining therapeutic efficacy, all in a patient-friendly packaging configuration.

Aptar's Beth Holland Receives NAEM's "Leadership in Action" Award

Today the National Association for Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHS&S) Management (NAEM) honored Beth Holland, Vice President, Operational Excellence – EHS & Sustainability for Aptar with a Leadership in Action Award.

Beth was one of eight corporate EHS&S leaders recognized at NAEM’s Excellence Awards ceremony which took place during the largest annual gathering for environment, health, and safety, and sustainability decision-makers—NAEM’s 28th annual EHS&S Management Forum.

Beth is being recognized by NAEM for her demonstrable impact that includes developing Aptar’s initial Sustainability Strategy, standardizing the company’s EHS Key Performance Indicators, and establishing a Global EHS management system, among other initiatives. Beth’s efforts have resulted in a 33% YOY reduction in Lost Time Incident Rate that has surpassed their industry average.

In a letter of recommendation that accompanied Beth’s nomination, Marc Prieur, President, Aptar Food + Beverage, described her impact on the organization’s key decision makers. “I rely on Beth as a partner and subject matter expert for our executives to keep pushing the envelope and stay ahead in EHS&S,” he said. “Her leadership in this area is a key asset and value to our strategic priorities and business imperatives.”

At the time of the ceremony, Beth was representing Aptar at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development council meeting in Portugal and was unable to attend the NAEM event. Accepting the award on Holland’s behalf were key members of her team: Joseph Frank, Director, Operational Excellence – EHS and Taylor Price, Manager, Operational Excellence – EHS & Sustainability.

3D Printing at Aptar

3D printing offers Aptar employees around the globe an opportunity to bring otherwise two-dimensional product designs into the physical world. This printing technique allows product designers and customers to evaluate product concepts and make faster adjustments than with steel molds. 3D Printing Q&A with Sean Cho – Product Design Engineer, Aptar Cary

  • What is 3D printing?
    • 3D printing is a process in which an object is created using an additive technique. In a more traditional method such as machining, where a solid block of material is slowly worked down until the final geometry is achieved, 3D printing only uses the material that is necessary to create the final part.
  • Why is it beneficial to the company?
    • Aptar utilizes 3D printing to help the Engineering team develop new products and concepts before committing to steel molds. The game-changer was bringing 3D printing in-house. This move has allowed Aptar to develop new concepts quicker and in higher numbers than ever before at a fraction of the cost to outside vendors.
  • How do you use 3D printing as a Product Design Engineer?
    • In the past, we chose which products to prototype using limited consumer data and virtual models. Today, we can 3D print several concepts simultaneously and evaluate them in a physical, tangible form and narrow down our selections based on real consumer testing.
